Bobcat Daily Walkaround Checklist

A few minutes a day can save you hours of downtime. Performing a quick daily walkaround before operating your Bobcat machine is one of the most effective ways to catch small issues before they turn into big (and expensive) problems.

Whether you're running a skid-steer loader, compact track loader, or excavator, this daily maintenance habit helps extend the life of your equipment and keeps your job site safe.

Here’s your quick Bobcat Daily Walkaround Checklist:

Visual Inspection

Walk around the entire machine and look for:

  • Leaks under the machine (oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant)

  • Damaged or missing parts (steps, lights, panels, etc.)

  • Wear on tires or tracks

  • Bent or missing safety decals

Check Fluid Levels

Make sure all fluids are topped off and within proper range:

  • Engine oil

  • Hydraulic fluid

  • Coolant

  • Fuel level Tip: Wipe the dipsticks clean before checking. Always use fluids recommended by Bobcat.

Inspect Hydraulic Hoses

  • Look for cracking, chafing, or leaks

  • Check that all hose fittings are secure

Check Tires or Track Tension

  • Tires: Look for punctures, low pressure, or excessive wear

  • Tracks: Make sure they’re not too loose or too tight. A properly tensioned track should sag about 1 inch off the middle roller.

Grease Points

Grease any fittings that require daily attention—especially around pivot points and arms. A little grease now prevents costly repairs later.

Clean Out Debris

  • Remove mud, rocks, and debris from the undercarriage, cooling system, and engine compartment

  • Check for clogged air intakes or vents

Test Safety Features

Before starting your work:

  • Ensure the seatbelt is functional

  • Test the horn, backup alarm, and lights

  • Check that safety interlocks and control systems are operating properly

Make It a Habit

This walkaround takes less than 10 minutes and could save you thousands in downtime and repairs. Keep a printed checklist in the cab or shop as a reminder, and encourage your crew to make it part of their daily routine.
